How do you advertise your forum?

Ive always wondered how other people advertised there forums, when I was with my last free webhost I only advertised on other forums I knew would bring in alot of people and would be more effective then payed advertising.

So who does what, how do you get those people packed in! :clap:

I advertise on forums which are active, or which are known to bring in good traffic.

Usually, putting a link in my signatures at other communities I'm active on seems to get the job done. Word of mouth also works very well. I like to tell some of my online and real life friends if I think the site might be of interest to them. :)

I bought text links to improve my PR and get higher SE rankings, i bought banner ads, i bought a traffic advert, i made a video and put it on google, i advertised it, i added it to web directories, i put it in my signature.

Maybe Content richness and exclusive is most important to a forum to attract traffic
