It's quite common to see the BoardTracker bot running around the site (it was on FU not too long ago) and you can certainly find the threads if your search for them. What I really want to know though if anyone has had referrals coming from BoardTracker?

It seems like a nice idea, but if it's not getting many referrals :iunno:

Certainly most boards indexed in boardtracker do get referrals and traffic but how much depends on many things such as the niche the board is in, how big the board is and how long its been indexed in BT and also how active it is currently - a large part of the traffic we send boards comes from alerts which we send to our members when matching threads are posted on any board in the system.

This particular board has had 2 referrals so far according to our profile here but to give you an example of what is possible have a look at this..

http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/member.php?u=56200

5,577 referrals there so far and still growing!

We need one of these for BoardTracker.. :google:

;)

:eek2: Wasn't expecting that...

I'm curious now, how does BT work? Surely it can all be manual, which makes it impressive someone found this topic on the day it was posted.

The referrals in the profile isn't necessarily the most accurate. It also doesn't show how many guests are coming from BT. I don't expect you to have this level of detail but I suspect some forum owners who have stats will.

Our spider checks for new threads at varying intervals depending on how active a board is. Our members setup alerts terms (basically just a selection of search terms) for topics which interest them and then we compare the new threads against all the alerts terms and if there is a match we send an email and/or instant message to those members.

This ensures people never miss a thread that may interest them no matter where or when it is posted and it helps bring in fresh, highly targeted and timely (its more useful to send people to current discussions rather than to those posted a year ago) traffic to the boards and it is of course how we always find threads like this talking about boardtracker. :)

Also traffic from boardtracker doesn't just come directly from boardtracker - various forms of syndication results in traffic from such places as forumeter.com and several meta search engines as well as other boards who enable the 'global search' option in our search, tags and related threads mods. :yippee:

Thanks for the information, BoardTracker. I'm sure readers here will find it interesting.

Scott and you did so well, I can't think of any more questions. :iunno:

So I'll just have a drink with ya'll.

:george: Not that there's anything wrong with that.

:jerry: No, nothing at all. I mean, if that's who you are.
