Due to great success in a "Relocation Forum" that I run through a company I do consultation work with i'm currently creating a Job Forum.

After researching keywords, search trends, and other websites I quickly realized how easy this will be to create. I bought a forum theme from ForumThemes then setup the forum into State Categories. Then under those State Categories I created County Categories. Then under a few of the County Categories, I then added some posts relating to cities within those counties

The best thing about setting up a Job Forum is XML/RSS does 99% of the work. I will be using streams from Dice, Jobs, and Oodle to bring in thousands of free job listings.

With an exclusive partnership with EmploymentGuide.com I will be able to stream in 650,000 job listings into the forum. Here is my goal:

posts - i.e Job Listings

10,000 posts in a week
100,000 posts in 2 months
1,000,000 posts in 6 months

Since the Job Forum will mostly be about the content (plus advertising) it doesn't matter if people sign up or not. So I do not have to worry about moderation or anything like that. The Job Forum will be setup as a "View Only" type of forum.

Currently as of 06/19/07 I have 796 job postings. So only 9,204 to go until I hit my first goal of 10,000. This should be completed by next Monday.

I could easily hit 10,000 in 10 minutes.. but I want to do is slow.. as I do not want the website to be penalized by Google. I've seen forums hit 50,000 new pages in a month and all of a sudden get penalized by Google. I'd rather not have that happen ;)

Welp.. its day 2 and here is my update:

Job Listings: 3,458

The forum is slowly increasing its job listings every hour or so. I am running a script that deletes any duplicate job listings, so the 3,458 is original job listings. I have 6,542 more jobs to add in 6 more days.. shouldn't be a big problem.

I also edited a mod I got from vbulletin.org that uses a better advance search and added this into the Home Display. The search can now search by "Cities" or "Jobs".

Welp.... its July 3rd and the forum is up to Job Listings: 14,543

Looks like I was a few days short of getting 10,000 by the 26th. But I cut it down a bit as I don't want GoogleBot thinking i'm putting up spam pages.

We got the website starting to get indexed on Google, Yahoo! Only took 10 days.. not bad, not bad...

So... today is 07/24/07 and the Job Forum is up to 20,225 Job Listings!

The 100,000 Job Listings in 2 months, I don't think i'm going to meet that. I'd say maybe 50,000. I really do not want to get a ton of webpages on there in less than 2 months, as I fear Google my harm the website rankings.

The Job Forum has been on-line roughly 4 - 5 weeks and its receiving about 15 unique visitors per day with about 1,200 indexed webpages.

My next big goal will be to double the unique visitors per day and increase the indexed pages to over 5,000 in a month. Wish me luck!
