Who is he, and who 's the other guy in the blue shirt, and why is there a smiling lady in the triangle?
They should make a new banner.

The smiley guy is Dennis (a photo from a few years back), the guy in the blue shirt is Tyler, and I'm the woman in the triangle. (My hair isn't usually like that, though.) I'm there because I cried until Dennis let me be in the ad too. :ftag:

And I was the one who took the pictures.

. . .
They should make a new banner.Kinda funny. I opened a ticket with vb to ask if they had a banner we could use, cuz I wanted to show sponsors they're appreciated.
They said they only had one, and it was old.
I'm not sure a banner is going to work out there though. I heard that it breaks the header on small resolutions.

how about right above navbit?

Or maybe a text link on top temporary...

how about right above navbit? It's not bad there.
But, it looked pretty good in the header.
Maybe we can make the logo narrower?

Be like Kramer who occassionally goes underwear free, and go banner free. :D
There's no law that says you have to have a big banner up top. :)

But, if it goes in the header (where it is at the time of this post), it's not like it's taking away from anything. It's just using the space that's already there.
/me checks on teh little screen now

A few more ideas:
- Shrink and move the library, I mean image up a row so that it's on the same line as the row of 3 links. That might make it too small, though.
- Have the name "Forum University" on 2 lines so that it takes up less width. The image could be on the same line as "Forum."
- Shrink both images.
- Mess with the vB image to reduce its width.
I don't like any of the ideas a lot, but here they are to play with if you want.

Here's another idea. What if you positioned the library (that's what the building reminds me of) behind the white "U" in "University" and its adjacent letters? You'd get the space you need, and it might look interesting that way. Or not. I don't know.

FU is a place of learning. IMO banners commercialise and ruin the pure feel. :hrmph:

Have you noticed who our sponsors are? vB donated a license for this forum. We're just showing our appreciation. :)
I used to be one of the organizers for an annual bicycling event. We got sponsors to donate prizes and food, and in return, we put their logos on the registration form that we distributed in bike shops and elsewhere. I couldn't have asked these sponsors to sponsor our event if we hadn't had something to give them in return, and no one considered it "commercial" that we acknowledged our sponsors.
We have links to our sponsors from this site, but if we can do more for them, why not? These situations work better when the giving goes both ways. :)

Yeh, there's nothing wrong with showing our appreciation to vBulletin (http://www.vbulletin.com) for giving us this software to use, or to ForumThemes (http://www.forumthemes.com) for making it purty, or to BurstNET (http://www.burst.net) for the server to present it on.
I love all them guys! :luv:  :luv:

Indeed, I don't mind seeing the odd banner flashed around for those who helped get this show on the road :)

Sure, no worries with showing appreciation to sponsors. They have text links on all pages. VB donated the forum licence, which costs $85/yr or $160 to own. I'm sure they'll get that returned many many dozens of times over with the text links. They're getting something in return now.
No need to go overboard. The giving is already going both ways, but there's a limit. How about 728x90 flash banners in the header? That'll really show our appreciation. Yeah. :D
But imo banners at the top, either in the header, or below that, don't look too good. Takes away from the pure look that it has now. The text links are classy, and they're a fair method of appreciation. Huge banners are overboard, imo.

You know me, I need to put my input in
I like the banner, er...maybe not vB's but I like the general feel for the banner. It takes up a bit more space, and its not invasive so it's good by me. FU, is just a big ol' family, putting a banner up is just like hanging a family picture up :fairy:

If I shrink the screen width even 1/8 inch, the header breaks, but when the screen is at its full width, it works. :yippee: Thanks for your time getting it to work. :)
If you want to use z-index in the coding, one image will slide under the other if necessary instead of breaking the header. Also, the border between the top row of links and the images looks like one too many lines when there's a border around the ad, but maybe it looks better with the line than without it?
That's just a small thing. I'm happy to see a header that looks like a header. :)

Oh well, I think banners detract from the purity of the "University" concept. Sponsors get thanked with classy text links, on every single FU page. Banners are just going overboard. That's how I see it. :(
