has anyone set up their forums so that admins and mods (or maybe everyone) can login securely?

Nope, we don't have a SSL certificate. What we did was just use .htaccess. Works like a charm :)

I know a few people have done this on their forums (there is an IPB mod for it: here (http://forums.invisionpower.com/index.php?showtopic=188868)) but I would only consider it if we were storing more sensitive details in the forum's database.

This might be useful for a company's customer support forum, but for normal discussion forums, it's probably a bit over the top.
