Blogs + forums?

Blogs are becoming increasing popular these days. How do they work with forums? Should people on forums have built in blogs, or should blogs come with forums attached?

Personally, I'd rather not see forums with blogs embeded. They're generally cluttered and very limited in function. Don't see any problem with forums on bigger blogs. It works even better if discussion can be linked between the forum and the blog. Blog = great for articles, forum = great for discussion.
