Hey,
I am starting up a poker site and my site is for over 18s only.

I am thinking of having a babe forum for premium members.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experience on this?
What should be allowed? How to manage it? Is it used?

Thanks
John

Usually ends up being one of the most popular threads on the forum, much like the post your desktop/background threads on other forums.

Active moderation of what gets posted is quite important though, or it tends to get.. out of hand.

Are you going to have a "hunks" forum for your female premium members?

The way to get that is to say that we females want a forum to discuss...feminine issues. If you ever want to clear the staff room of men, that's the topic to bring up. ;) Then we can talk about whatever we want in privacy. :dancin:

A forum for babes? A forum about the pig Babe? A forum about babes? I didn't know when I read that, but Google told me you probably meant the last one.

My limited experience is from a woman's point of view. One of the sites I maintain is for accommodation in Cuba, and one time I followed an incoming link to that site to...a forum where men talk about prostitutes in various countries/cities. (The link to the site was there because Cuba has laws about Cubans going into hotels or something like that, but other accommodations might be different.)

As a woman, I was uncomfortable with men talking about women as sex objects, but I was also curious, so I looked around a bit. The first stop: the Rules page, of course. ;) The rules specified that members were not allowed to use derogatory terms to refer to women, and from what I saw, that rule was followed. IIRC they also had rules about photos.

Is it used?

I imagine that such forums attract a lot of traffic. But will members who already know each other use it? At the forum I stumbled into, I don't remember seeing any links in sigs, and no one had a real name as a username. These guys obviously wanted anonymity.

Then again, what you're suggesting isn't the same as what I saw, and I may have misunderstood what you're talking about.

You will need to be careful with a 'Babe' forum as as others have said it will be the most used forum and will need to be heavily moderated (to prevent porn images)

Also as Lois and a few others said things would have to be equal amongst both your female and male members

Haha of course I would have Jan but you wont get to see it now ;)
I have decided not to go ahead with this forum, I want my forum to be respectable and mature for women and men alike.

I'm not going to add this forum if it pleases a few and brings down the reputation I am working hard to build.

Thanks for all the feedback :)

Just my opinion:

Really, if you want to encourage members, the best thing is to keep all of your forums on topic, and provide a single off topic forum. You could also consider offering forums for more regular members as a bonus for being excellent members to your site, but keep the extra forums hidden from guests and search engines.

My thought:

If you start to wander all over the place with regards to subjects, you'll only dillute the purpose of your board. The initial topics for a forum are so vital as these are the ones most likely to be indexed by Google (and other search engines). If you move your board into another completely different direction, you'll just attract people not looking for poker.

John I deal with Babe pics on a daily basis. Things go alright as long as the "babes" are considered actractive by all. I allow users to upload photos for apporoval before positng. You would think this was one of the fun duties. In truth is is a pain deciding what the members think is attractive and deleting all the freaky amatuer porn that is uploaded.
