View Full Version : A forum suggestion...

Hey,
Have a suggestion for FU.
What about adding a forum which includes a 100 day challenge.
Users post what they want to achieve with their forum within 100 days, for example increase membership by 500, add 30 new articles, increase number of unique visitors by 20% etc.
Everyone creates one thread and they are made public on the same day and everyone updates their post with the progress for their site and how they are doing it.

Hmmm. There are goals, and there are goals. If the challenge were to run 10 km (6 miles) or lose 10 pounds (5 kg), for example, those are goals within our power (assuming we have no physical limitations preventing us from reaching them). But reaching a goal of X new members is different. We can get our forum name out there, but we can't make people join, and even if we could, quality is better than quantity, right? :)
By "quality," I mean people who are interested in the forum content and want to take part. There'd be no point in me joining a poker forum, for example, when I don't know how to play the game.
The goal of getting new articles sounds more achievable to me. That is, if you're talking about articles and not posts and you're going to write them yourself or know people who will write them for you.

It could be interesting to see how close people got to their actual goal.

Those were just examples of goals to set, I do actually want to set myself a goal of getting x members within certain time periods.
If we write what we are doing to reach our goals it could help others when we post how and if each method worked.
Having something that is achievable by your own work though, writing articles yourself for example is something easier to organise and manage.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I don't know if we have enough members yet to have a separate forum for that (Dennis, what do you think?), but you could start a thread in Building and Maintenance, and we could cheer you on and learn from your experience. :) If we get enough of that type of thread, we could set up a new forum for them.
That's my thoughts on it, anyway.

Sounds like a good idea to me. I don't know if we have enough members yet to have a separate forum for that . . .Well, on the surface, you might think so.
But, one thread can lead to another.
If we defined and built the forum first, maybe it would generate more interest than if we started a thread that would go in the new forum in a different category and then moved them based on interest.
It'd probably be better if we started a thread in the new forum (what was the name of it?) and moved it to an existing forum if there were no interest.

I think having it seperate from other threads would work better to keep it focused and easy to find everyone's thread.
I think it could generate some good interest in both getting new members that want to get involved and visitors that want to see what is working for people so they can try it themselves.
I would love to do this myself anyway.

The idea is growing, and I like it. :)

May want to make it understable for all :P

"Case studies" makes me think of medical journals, but maybe that's just me.
Draft for a forum description:
Tell us what you want to achieve with your forum within a period of time, such as increased membership or visitors, new posts or articles, higher SERP, etc. Post specific goals. Update your thread with your progress, and we'll help you and learn from you.

But, I thought we were going with one specific time frame. Although, user choice would probably be more appropriate.Tell us what you want to achieve with your forum within a period of time, such as increased membership or visitors, new posts or articles, higher SERP, etc. Post specific goals. Would you like everyone to use the same time frame? I can reword it if you want. :)

The suggestions have all been for a constant.
I'm not sure we need one.
What's everyone else think?

I agree. I'd like to let each member decide on the time period for his/her challenge.

Sounds like it's better to let them pick their own length of time. Just as long as they do state one and it isn't unrealistic.
Post 100...already....I'm such a flooder:pink:

Maybe I can get some ideas for my own goals if some other people post their challenges.
Thanks for adding this!
