The CP has a link for profile pictures in addition to avatars. Both have the same maximum size.

If we upload profile pictures, where do they appear? Can everyone see them? Are they supposed to be real pictures? That last question is because I can see them becoming like a second avatar.

They show up in your profile.

Look at mine (http://www.forumuniversity.com/campus/member.php?u=1). I have a profile picture.

They appear in a users profile, and are IMO a waste. The Profile Pic appears to the far right of the avatar. I don't like them, since they use up alot more Avatar space (double the avatars per user). I guess they can be nice for say, a Car forum, for somebody to post their car, but for our purposes I don't think they are neccessary.

Edit: hmmm, SWR yours actually looks very nice and well to scale. I guess they can be ok if kept to a certain size (100x100 pixels maybe). The forum that I have seen them on that made me disable them had the maximum size set to 200x200 pixels.

Yeh. I think default is 200.

Maybe putting up personal pictures would be a way to get more personal.

Would you like me to link to the more recent photo of you I found? :banana2:

When I first looked, you had an, er, different image there. If that (the past image) is what people are going to do, I don't see much point of having profile pictures. But the current photo is better. :)

It's maximum 100X100.

I've gotten more personal than you have. :flirt:

. . . It's maximum 100X100. . .It is . . . . now. (hmmmm . . . . maybe it was by default as well)

Only recent pictures around of me are ~five years old.

I'll find one of them new fangled cameras and get something recent.

Maybe this is something we should look at for WHT.

Several members have expressed interest in being able to post a picture of themselves.

When you guys go to 3.5? I will have a whole laundry list of ideas :) :bananad:

Well, it really is getting close. :)

But, that's for a WHT thread, I suppose.

Profile Pictures are good, they are only in your profile and not in the way. It is a nice personal touch. 100x100 seems awful small for a profile picture though.

200 Would probably be better for personal pictures, though, either way it is nifty.

And where's yours? :flirt:

We aren't very good at taking a forum break, are we. :hypno:

No, not really. I have about another two dozen other forums I could troll^H^H^H^H^Hcontribute on while waiting too.

I was including myself in the "we." I'd been looking forward to the break, but then somebody posted in a thread I'm subscribed to here, and here I am.

It's so much easier to read and respond to forum posts than to immerse myself in work. :scatter:

I set Profile Picture sizes to max of 400x400.

I think a larger picture option will encourage more members to use a picture of themselves.

And, if someone doesn't want to look at a picture that size, they have the option of not viewing profiles.

And, since I uploaded a fresh picture (taken ten minutes ago) of me, not viewing is probably a wise option. :D

Ahh, there's the guy with the rugged good looks and sparkling personality, setting an example as always. :bananad: :bananad: :bananad:

I'd post mine but I don't have a digital camera... and I would scare people away

Awwww . . . Don't be shy.

I think my pictures of a couple years ago when I wasn't fat are much better. But, I want to present who I am now. And dat's me. :p

You look good to us. :)

The friends I have in face-to-face life are mostly just average-looking, like me. We come in a variety of sizes. Our friendships aren't based on what we look like, but on personalities, values, and shared experiences.

The same is true about people we get to know online. Knowing what other people look like doesn't change anything except to add to our sense of what they are like as people. Thanks for sharing your photo! :)

That said, I don't have any recent photos of myself, and I don't have a new-fangled camera either to take one with. The one in my profile is several years old. My appearance hasn't changed much since then, though.
