View Full Version : Forum is becoming "dead"

I not to long ago made a forum about philosophy. I thought that it was the only one of its kind, and only after did i sadly realise that was not the case. What i found were huge philosophy forum communities. Already established, hard to find, but already there. When i first made my forum a few of my friends signed up to support me, but they are inactive members, infact i only have about 3 active members. Ths site now feels dead. AS if it had its peak, and not its slowly deterorating. I don't want that ot happen, nor do i want it to abandon or delete it, any suggestions?
How long has the forum been up? Maybe you can share the URL so we can take a look at what might be needed to enhance it somewhat? You might also create a few usernames to get it kick started again. Basically talk to yourself if need be :) Finding interesting articles on deceased philosopher's views with links to where you found them might also help get you :spider:ed by search engines.
If it is something you feel strongly about, then work on building up a member base and it will grow eventually :)
Welcome to the forum by the way :wavey:
I am sure others will have some more insight on getting some oomph into your forum :)

Philosophy is the rational investigation of questions about existence and knowledge and ethics for those who are not sure.I like that. :)
Of course, your signature there has been a favorite of mine for a long time."Great minds discuss ideas; Average minds discuss events; Small minds discuss people"
-Eleanor Roosevelt
The site looks rather new. Maybe you just need to give it some time.
Personally, I'd have to be really interested in content you already have to stay. The colors make it too hard to read for me. :glasses: <<<< hmmm . . . we need a :glasses: emoticon :D
Then that is what we shall do.Is a really good quote too. :)
Just hang in there. When you have something to discuss, discuss it with those that are there. If you are passionate about philosophy, then use your forum to showcase your passion. You might just draw someone into discussion.

I like the idea, can't say I've came across many forums on this topic.
The site is particularly dark which as you can see from this poll (http://www.forumuniversity.com/campus/tech-campus/t-dark-or-light-skin-122.html) we carried out, isn't particularly popular. Design has a big impact on whether people stay and post or not so maybe this could be something to consider. I do like that blue, just not the black background :D
You seem to have some pretty good url rewriting going on there, which will definitely help get your site out there. However, you're current domain name probably isn't helping. If you can, I would look at investing in a TLD...generally aren't that expensive.
Hope that's given you something to go on, sorry if I've been a little blunt...this wasn't intended as a put down. It's a good idea for a forum, and you should keep at it :pink:

Oh not at all, I'll be sure to take all of your tips on board. Thanks for the help! I'll change the background colour and find a better url, maybe get a .tk domain name.
Let me know when you change the background and I'll take a better look around. I didn't stay too long, but I noticed a couple of spelling errors in the forum descriptions, you might like to get that sorted too :)

Ok guys. I updated the site, taking onboard the advice given. Anything else?
That is more calming to the eyes :) You might see if you can change your adsense colour scheme to blend in with the current colour scheme :)

I do not understand what you mean.

That looks much better IMO :)
Jan's talking about the colouring of the ads at the top and bottom of your forum. I dunno how much control you have over them as it seems to be a forumsforfree feature...but if you can make them blend, I would do it.
A big improvement I think :D

hehehe, i have 0 control. But thanks for all of your help, and im glad you think it looks better :greenthum
Is the adsense your account or that of your host? If it is yours, you can change the colour scheme :)
