Welcome to FU! :welcome: I've moved this to In the Beginning since it sounds like you're looking to start up a forum.
There are thousands of topics you could start a forum about. Some questions to ask yourself about each one:
- How many forums already exist about the topic?
- Is there enough interest about the topic to start up another forum to discuss it?
- Can you find ways to make a new forum different from others on the same topic?
- Do you know enough about the topic to be able to discuss it in an informed way and to generate interest in it?
I don't think anyone can give you ideas because we don't know what you know. There's no point in starting a forum about widgets, for example, unless you know how to use widgets, the differences between A types and B types, and the types of topics that come up around widgets.
Think about what you know and are interested in, and start looking from there. :)

Without a doubt, aim to start a forum which you are interested in. This forum is something you'll want to invest a lot of time into. If you don't find a subject you enjoy...you won't enjoy building the forum.

Great meaning you have experience with control panels(cpanel, helm ect.), windows, unix, linux, ssh, proxies, iptables? I think you really need to be able to diagnose and resolve issues ina timely manner if you wish to run such a tech savvy forum

First of all, it really depends on which reasons you are creating a forum. Is the forum going to be for personal joy or monetary value?
Assuming it's monetary:
Your idea does not need to be completely original but you must pick a genre that is not oversaturated.
One thing that many people overlook are simple topics - the goal is to pick a topic but find a niche in it. Look at everyday tasks such as cleaning, walking, exercising, etc and focus on it.
I suggest not creating a broad/off topic style forum.

I was just trying to get an idea of your level of expertise to help you in making a desicion... an actual answer would still be appreciated rather than a restatement...
