I am currently using invision power board 2.0.4 and would like to change forum software, I do not wish to pay for vbuletin or asnything that expensive so I am looking for something free, open source, or lower cost... Id o not wish to use phpbb, smf is a possibilty... does anyone have any ideas of other forums? I need to find one that already has a convertor from ipb to it for the database...

I recently became a fan of punBB, simply because i find joy in making modifications myself, and using software that very few people are using already.
There's a conversion disussion thread here: http://forums.punbb.org/viewtopic.php?id=3507
I would rather continue using invision board though.. the software is good.

one person said I can't run it on windows, so I installed ekin board on my debian server, I figured I would just change port forwarding to that computer but after the install I just get a blank page on everything... all the database tables are there and it connnects to it... I dont get 404 erros or anything, just every single page is blank... any suggestions?

I found a thread with the same situation but I have chmodded all my files to 0777

Out of interest, why do you want to change from IPB? Maybe this will help us give suggestions on other software.
I'd also like to know why you don't want to use Invision Board... I used it for one project a very long time a go, and I sort of lost my liking in IB once they started changing, but I still think the system isn't bad.
And why not phpBB?

phpbb is to widely used and exploitable, I aslo just don't like the look and feel of it and all the interfaces...

Don't use any forum that advise you to chmod your files to 777. That sounds like a great way to let hackers or other bad people use your forums against you. If you currently have IPB why not keep it, or is it becuase you don't want to pay the renewal fee?
I have had the most success with vBulletin for paid software and PHPBB for free software. PHPBB is definatly not as exploitable as many say (I have run PHPBB for 5 years, and only had two occasions where my forum was defaced). If you keep it updated and make sure you dont have any hacks with security holes, all will be fine.

The chmod was only during installation...
as for ekin board, I love it now... I can't wait for 1.1 to come out ina few weeks because it uncludes quick reply and convertors :)
Right now I love it, it looks awesome and is really fast!

Continued going well, Only thing so far at this point (beside lack of convertor from other boards which are ocming soon) is me not being used to the admin panel, it is setup alot differently and some key features of the permissions system aren't going to be out for about 2 weeks... other than that great... the move weeded out inactives
