Hey all, I was wandering if Wikipedia, just used a normal wiki, or if they used there own created wiki. I was wandering this because if I start a school help forum, then I wouldn't mind having something like that for the main page because, what easier of a way then people being able to share inforamtion on subject then posting it on a wiki.

I know that it may take away from the forum I make, but it is a bonus for people that may not want to sign up to a forum. And a forum I think would still be a good place for at least meeting new people.

I just want a little feedback for this, should I do a Wiki style thing and then a forum, or should I keep it all strictly as a forum?

Why not?

You'll need something to make your site different to all the other sites/forums out there. Why not have a wiki too? As long as it's integrated into the site/forum design and is actually used then there's no reason why it can't be a valuable addition to your site.

Now all you need is a few more good ideas like that and you'll have a unique site that keeps drawing the visitors back....(as long as it's got some good content too ;))

Mediawiki was designed espcially for Wikipedia. You can download it at sf.net

I'm not a big fan of wikis for small projects. If there are only 20 people to whom the site is targeted, having them all on a forum is not unreasonable. When you get into the 10s of thousands, wikis might be more useful
