I think FU could make a good amount of cash if we charged $10 per 30 days for members to advertise their non-profit websites: forums, blogs, anything non-profit.

Why only non-profit sites? You got something against profit sites? :D

Are you thinking about the space where Burst/vB's ads are? If so, I think that would be quite a good way to get some income to FU.
However, if you're talking about putting ads in another location at the top of the board, it could look a bit crowded.
Could always charge more for those profit sites...

How about $30/30 days for profit sites?
Yeah, talking about the spot where vB and burst ads are.

But wouldn't that cause less exposure to the famous FU Sponsors?

Maybe weigh their banners above standard ones? Plus they do have the links at the bottom too. Guess we'll see what Dennis says...if the squirrels haven't got him. :)

You can control the rate of banner display. give vB and burst a greater display rate. in addition to that, they also have their footer links.

I really hadn't given it much thought. But now that you mention it, there wouldn't be any difference in performance or aesthetics if different banners were running.
But I don't know. It would likely make me feel like FU was a money making operation. And that wouldn't be right.
/me thinks on where teh money would go

Aren't people more likely to pay for advertising if they hope to make profit from their site?

... where teh money would go:homer: DOH! . . .
I've been buying links and banner advertising for FU of late.
If we sold banner space on FU, I'd be able to buy more banner space on other places.
Now it's starting to sound like a good idea! :yippee:

Sounds like a plan. More exposure can't hurt FU at this stage.

It's a win-win situation for everyone. People here get cheap advertising, and exposure for their website, and FU gets money to put into gaining more exposure in other parts of the internets.

Sounds like a good idea. I'd be more than glad to throw up some Dotable banners into the mix. It's for a good cause and all. :banana2:

I think that banner space would be good too! However, I don't like the cost per impression, oppose to the cost per click.

I think they should get as many clicks and views as they want, in a 30 day period.

I think I have it sorted out.
I set up an account for the smiley banner. And it appears to be working out. Hey! I never said I could build a banner! :bonk:
I'll run it another day or so and make sure stats work out before I go on a begging spree.

How do you physically manage the banners?
I mean, apart from using something like phpMyAdmin, how do manage the whole process, from signup, to adding banners to the DB, to giving a client his stats, to allowing him to change / update his banner(s)?
I see here on Forum University they use Paypal for the signup, but what next?
How does one automate something like this, bearing in mind that banner ads isn't a primary function of most forum scripts.
