Anyone having good on-hand experiences about comparing these three products?
Most likely you are familiar with vB, but if someone has tried wBB and/or punBB too, I'd like to hear about your opinions concerning the memory footprint/usability of user-and admin cp/speed/cpu usage? Security or compatibility issues?
Thanks in Advance.
I can't say I have ever heard of punBB, got a link?

I once saw the creator of punBB complaining on a forum about a few dozen exploits for his product being posted on a security bulletin website. Based on those statements, I wouldn't ever use punBB.
vB 3.5.0 is pretty great. I'm using it right now. I still believe invision board is better software.
I had the chance to use wBB some years back, and i was turned off by it's excessive mysql resource usage. I haven't used it recently though.

Thanks Robert :) Looks much the same as other forums, but they seem to cater to both English and International traffic which is nice to see.

A little biased perhaps .. but I have installed a lot and converted after days, weeks and months.. but when I tried vBulletin I never changed again. It's the complete package, enhanced and secure, well balanced between features and performance.
And even if they did not hire me nearly 2 years ago, I would have posted this.

That really doesn't sound like Rickard to me...but that would be a bit annoying for "dozens" of exploits to pass you by as a developer.
Then again, I'm not seeing "dozens" of security flaws on punBB anyway.
Thanks a lot to "Devil_box of KAPDA" for posting an advisory on the SQL injection without even notifying me of it. Much appreciated!
If that is what you're talking about, pish posh. It is standard practise in the FOSS world (not that I necesarily agree with it, but...)

Yep, still a "that's nothing". I could go through and list developers who have had far "worse" reactions than that:
[Unknown] (SMF)
psoTFX (phpBB)
Matt Mechem (IPS)
I'm sure that one or more of the vB developers has too, but I very rarely visit vbulletin.com, and never to read the announcements forum.

I know the SMF people are complete idiots when it comes ot security. Just look at their announcement to start having all smf files chmod 777.

I prefer vB. IPB is nice software, but I didn't care for the ever changing policies they have when vB pretty much stayed the same all these centuries. I used IkonBoard for awhile, but tossed it when I got a server that had php.

I've never used punBB, however I've used both wBB 1 & wBB 2. wBB is a pretty nice product, and is designed to look a lot like vB, but at only the fraction of the cost. The code is a litlte funny, and not nearly as organized as vB's, which makes it a little harder to modify but it's not bad for some forum software.

I've been using punBB recently, and to be honest I'm really liking it! It offers unmatched ease of skinning, and is one of the most lightweight forum scripts created, and it can really put the likes of IPB to shame when it comes to loading times and search engine optimization.

i donot say, well they are a good at developing. i used their forum once and left them coz there forum had a lot of errors.
esp the developers are my friends but their owners are enemies to me.

How can you say phpBB is the best? It has next to no features.

Now, lets review, there are plenty of MODs available that add the functionality some people insist on having. There are plenty of pre-modded phpBB downloads (don't expect support from phpBB.com of course).
phpBB is released under the GPL, meaning anyone could go and add the "missing" functionality everyone claims "everyone" wants. Release it if they wish to the public.
But alas, its easier to complain then it is to do something about it. (oh hey look, the CCP (http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=328250) which there were like what, 17 or so submissions).
Will W. continue to make silly administration policies during his time in office, probably. Will A_Jelly_Doughnut continue to comment on why he thinks the Developement Team is doing things wrong, who knows. Will phpBB2 stay the way it is, unless someone says otherwise, yes. Will people continue to complain about phpBB2, when there were options given (e.g. CCP) and continue to stick their foot in their mouth. Most likely.
(Note: my views while may be shared with others do not represent any one who has employed me in the past, the phpBB Group, the phpBB Team, etc, etc are 100% my own, and are to be taken at the value of a grain of salt)

Yeah, if you have a lot of time in your hands you can take a 80 hour break from reality to install all the hacks to bring all the features from vBulletin to phpBB. However, you're also going to have to take 80 hours out of your schedule every two days to patch your board to help close a few of those 14 billion security holes phpBB has, and reinstall those hacks.
You could argue that you could patch your board using the .patch file, but that's not going to work too well on a heavily hacked forum.

Well sure, why not.
But wait: Acyd Burn has just fixed the big problem with Graham, David, and Nils. Darn. I guess I won't be complaining today.

14 billion? Extreme over-exaggerating really doesn't do you any good.
