Hello everyone,

I have started a site called postjunkie.com using the SMF Forums. My forums are for a little bit of everything, gaming, technical, news, politics, sports, movies, music, etc. My question to you guys is this. I have the extra cash to purchase Invision or Vbulletin, would this be worth the money, for the ease of use and familiarity for users?

My honest answer would be no, not for those reasons. People are unlikely to take to an SMF forum less kindly than an IPB or vB one. Save the money for a point when moving to one of these would help you in in some other way (mainly I can think of optimisation, or something related to the back end (not trying to start an anti-SMF thread :chairhide)).

If you want to switch for added features, support or looks - sure, it's your money. I will advise, however, there are a lot of forums for a "little bit of everything" and money can often be better spent advertising ;)

Well you did say, "I have the extra cash."

If I had the "extra cash," I'd go with one of the paid options.

But, as Scott mentioned, you might want to consider where to invest your "extra cash."

Looks good, although I personally don't like the dark backgrounds on forums, but that's just me. It is your members you need to cater for :)

Looks nice, like Jan I'm not a huge fan of black backgrounds, but that skin seems to work.

Its some months old post, But i am very happy to answer you what you are asking.

Yes IPB and VB are worth money because of many many reasons, Fiest of all they are more appealing Look wiz, They have a commercial community supporting you as a customer. They are very conscious about Quality actually.

TBH If some community is using a free software, and its in initiation process right, It seems like the creators are not much serious about the community, its my personal feeling. Maybe you can get skins/stuffs for SMF/PHPBB but on whole part it never look great and professional like IPB/VB.
