Odd Fact

I am bringin online a community for my day job. My problem is I actually know very little about our product. So what might be some good ways to build up staff?

If I didn't know the product, and still wanted to launch a community based site, I'd consider handling it the best I could and hoping for that special member(s) to join.

But, you could visit similar forums and ask for staff. :)

What is the product? Is it something commonly found on the net that people might be seeking forums about?

The product is motorcycles. I am planning on an "ask the mechanic" or "swap mechanic tip" There will also be general motorcycle talk. I am picking up some industry information but still need to know more.

I've been in the same situation before, and I still am today, Steve :)

What I personally do is, we have one member who knows "almost everything" concerning the topic. If I don't know, or my staff, I simply shoot him a PM asking for some help to make sure all members' questions are answered properly and timely.

They may not have to be staff, but they certainly need to feel special :)

Maybe browse some of the Motorcycle forums (http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2005-44,GGLG:en&q=motorcycle+forum) for some ideas and contacts to give you a hand?

I have been lurking at a few other forums. One problem is that many of the motorcycle/chopper people are very biased to who they like. I need to find someone knowledgable who likes the owner.

Post an announcement, have a few requirements and invite some friends who might know more .. this will get things started and your community members will do the rest :)
