View Full Version : Working ON your business instead of INSIDE it

Hey,
I have started opening up some sites for business only now, and forums will be part of the sites.

I think I am a lot better off now working on my business instead of in it.

By that, I mean by hiring people to do most of the hard work so I can focus on things that will help develop the community and sites, for example I have hired a content writing company full time to write unique content for me and I will soon be hiring an SEO company that will be working on getting me up there in search engine results :)

I think putting some money into that and working on other things, for example going out and finding advertisers that will pay the money for the people I am hiring will help a lot more in the long run.

I am already doing it with one forum and I can honestly say it makes work a lot easier and I am seeing far better results, plus my community likes it more when I have time to participate in it more myself instead of being caught up with working on the backend.

Does anyone else do this?
Has anyone else tried it?

I don't think this only applies to forums, but any other site or business that you want to develop quicker.

I know I will be losing out money at first on all sites, but even the content alone will be worth it.

Thoughts? :)

Still not a guarantee of success. If your day job limits your time and/or pays very well, contractors may be a good idea. I continue to recommend the admin actually running his/her site.

There is merit in this course of action. When a task is needed (SEO, modding, design) it can be a time saver to hire someone more experienced. However I do like to keep watch on the process.

I still run my site 100%, but like Odd Fact said, if I need a service done, I think it makes more sense to hire someone experienced with it.

The main one I am doing now is hiring a content writing company that are working on high quality, targeted articles and content that I think will help drive more traffic to the site and give more to the current visitors.

I'm not good with writing myself and I think these articles could be good to offer as a free resource to other sites in exchange for a link back.

I am hiring more and more people to do work for me now and it seems like the work is done a lot better than if I would have done it myself, plus it leaves me more time to get involved in the community instead of working in things in the back end :)
