View Full Version : Member that trashes threads

You have a member that at first seems to be helpful, then he and another member exchange a few words. You delete the posts and kind of brush it off. Then the second member PMs you and says that the first member is bad news and provides some links of evidence; then leaves the community.
Then after everything dies down a week or two(or more lol) later, he's at it again. He trashes a few other threads with his opinionated, boastful, often misinformed, and off subject information. You close the threads.
What's your next move? Or of course you warn him, but do you go as far as banning him?

If his actions are contrary to your community's focus, just point that out. Give him suggestions for improving his interaction. And, if he does it again, certainly ban him.

If that member is doing this stuff for business then he will definately listen to your words and stop his action. If the member is trashing threads in your forum for no reason then you will have to ban him in long run as that member is Psychic.
There's no cure for members who do such things for no reason. One more reason would be his age. Kids below 18 always do such things and you should not have much problem in dealing with kids.

I would agree with the others above. He's probably a kid, which is where you'd get most of that kind of activity from. Give them a warning, but explain why and give him a few suggestions for improving, then if it happens again I think your forced to ban him. Having some controversy in your forum "might" be good, but when it gets more than that, it's time to go.

I would agree here. Make sure he gets a formal warning first before banning him.
As for:

Please don't sterotype.

Indeed! I have seen many threads where certain "mature" members zoom in to troll certain posts. I just wish they would consider what they are doing to their business, especially when they also flash their signature.
Google does a good job of exposing that kind ;)

This is something I see a lot of on certain boards, those "kids" who always cause trobule. I'm sure this would be better suited to a different thread, but it really annoys me. Some people under 18 know a lot more about certain topics than those over, I don't see what age has got to do with anything.
Sure, kids can cause trouble, but as Jan said - so can "adults".

I would say take this route. The third time is a charm. Of course you have taken the steps of ignoring the posts or deleting them. One leaves the other dosent. Everyone has a bad day but not consistantly where they are bringing a bad sense of air to your forums direction. If this person posts alot, than it can give a stink.
So after the minor infractions and discussion with what you think is appropiate for this person is to do in your community. If all fails than ban of course. But be sure to get an IP as well. They may just sign on as a different user. And I am also aware of the IP proxies and what not. But atleast it will slow the user down considerably.
