Do you just take a break and log off, and do other stuff, or does it actually motivate you to create new and interesting content so you're less bored (and hopefully other members too)

How do you get bored? I can always find something to do. In fact, I have to force myself to leave on occassion so that I know other things exist.
Seems there's always something that can be fixed or tweaked or written.
So, given your choices, I'd say I'm in the group that, "motivate you to create new and interesting content so you're less bored"
Or, I just walk around with a dust rag and try to get everything white glove clean.

Good question!
Typically I try and "spice it up" a bit, post a bit more, and of course interesting topics. We play a game on my forum called "Word Association" and normally there are a few members there that'll play it with me.
But, most of the time I believe I go on a hack hunt, or make my own hack to try and make it more enjoyable for members. Adding functionality always has been fun for me, especially when you create it and it works

I am trying to improve my forum and add certain things, add content and think of ways to get more activity. The forum I run is the first time I have done something like this and this place is looking like it will be of benefit!

What is this "other stuff" that though speaketh of? :dfingers: :giggle:
If someone running a smaller forum should get bored, he/she could take a step back and see what could be done to improve/enhance the forum. Perhaps take a walk on the beach for contemplation. :fish:
But on a large forum, I can't see anyone getting too bored, as there is always something needs doing. :whip:

Jan, some people aren't so lucky as to have a beach in their backyard -- unlike some people. :hrmph: :D

In the health newsgroup where I've been for years, I found myself getting bored with the same questions over and over. I wanted to help as I was once in the place of the people asking questions, but my mind wanted new material to digest. Although I spend less time there now, here's what I've noticed draws me in again:
- New topics to discuss. For that health group, a new topic might be a new medical journal article or another development in the field. Other groups will have different new topics, of course.
- Playing around. My interest in that group started waning at around the same time that my chief play partner started spending less time there. As long as there are people who play with you, it isn't going to get boring. ;)
- Friendship. When you can relate to other people and their interests and have a long history with them, there's always something interesting to talk about.
I think your question is from a mod point of view, but if I can't be interested in a forum as a regular member, I don't see myself being interested as a mod either.

Play a bit of guitar, eat a sandwich, watch the game, play computer games with friends, chat over skype, go play some pool, horsebackriding, things like that.

I work on bus schedules, surf through some topics on WHT when I'm able to (my ISP is having some issues reaching there, CNN, etc. a lot lately), rescue my co-admin and cousin when he hoses the board, play with the cats, etc!
I also help our agency's contact IT person keeping the servers at work going and also assist him on some of his other clients, especially checking newly install mboards on the Mac.
