It is said that phpBB is not hacker safe.
What can you suggest that can help in this problem?
Are there any mods available that can solve this issue?

Like any software, you need to keep it updated.

Just subscribe to the mailing list and update as needed. :)

PHPBB version 3 is suppose to fix a lot of that. The only problem is the PHPBB development team refuses to give out a release date for version 3, so we may be waiting for ever from the looks of it. :bkick:

phpBB 3 should be coming out soon :D - Or at least to an RC stage anyways ;) (they're up to Beta 5 - like what else is left to fix! lol)
Always keep your phpBB 2 up to date. If you install a heap of modifications, this becomes harder (and one of those things you try to put off...)
When it comes to updating phpBB, i always like to download the entire forum off the webserver along with the database extract, and install it on my personal computer. From there, i work with the Code Changes upgrade file from phpBB and upgrade it from that. This allows you to take your time and also to think about errors it brings up (as compared to doing it to the live board).
If you have not installed many (or any) modifications then it should be no hassle to upgrade on release of an update.
It also pays to google around to check for known phpBB threats and such. Ever heard of FuntKlakow? It was once largely feared to be in place for a mass scale exploit of phpBB (it is now recognised as just a spam bot ;) http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?sid=&f=6&t=22880&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=0 )
Stay vigilant and you'll be safe ;)
