Do you remove the copyright or branding?
Some softwares require you to purchase this as an option though.. realize that please :)
If you remove it, why? I am curious. I have a few sites where I do this for legal reasons (company wants their own copyright and not list third party companies' ones), and for example running a vbulletin fan site.. a bit useless to remove the vbulletin copyright hehe.

I just leave the copyrights on with all my past examples. Havent come across a need to remove them yet although I would if required by a client.

I don't. All the software I use requires you pay some big figure to remove it. So, I just leave it there, and no real harm is done.
Sometimes I will remove the version number for security reasons. But i'll always leave the software identifier there.

Same.
Although I do hate the style writers who have a copyright ~6 lines that takes up a lot of space. Usually I "trim" it a bit, as I never use a "true" style. I like to change a lot

I'm the same way, only I usually break stuff instead of changing it... now who wants me to work on their forum?

A professional designer should know not to do that ;)

a discreet copyright, I don't mind. especially if it costs to remove it. ;)
but I don't like the "Powered by ....." bit that shows up if I bookmark a forum. so I remove that.

To me it all depends on a number of things, whether or not I leave the copyright statement in there:
-- How much work have I done to tweak the software. If enough work is done, I usually call it a sub-version or something like that, and add the original copyright in a credits page.
-- How secure is the software? In the cases like php-nuke, I don't even bother leaving the copyright, because I've got to go through every week and fix hacks that the author refuses to touch. Software like that I generally patch up, hack it all to hell, then call it something else ;)
-- How REASONABLE is the copyright? One page, sure, I'll put it there, but it's not my responsibility to do the advertising for the software which I (usually) pay for on every page of my site. That's ridiculous, and it shows the mark of a lazy marketing team there.
Copyrights are good, they're meant to show who the work is designed by, but what's showing up more and more is nothing more than a marketing ploy lately. Here, you buy my software, you MUST also market my software for me. Kind of ridiculous if you ask me.

I leave the copyright up. They don't bother me.
Sometimes I'll have to change the colour or put it back up when adding a theme. A couple of skins I downloaded the colour was real close to the background, so I made lighter/darker so it can be seen.
One theme I got, the author must've had the brand-free option on his board as the copyright was missing. One of my moderators noticed it and took the skin offline until the copyright was added back in.
