View Full Version : how to tell: your admins suck
Hello,
I run a relatively popular forum, but I kinda dislike some of my staff. I'm afraid when I boot them, my members will be gone as well... What can I say, what can I do? How can I gently tell them to get the *** of my board?

If you dislike some of your staff only on a personal level, then I would live with it as long as they are performing their duties as administrators/moderators.
If you dislike some of your staff because they are not effectively performing their duties, then inform them as such in a professional and polite manner.
Well it's actually like this. I have a group of members on my forums who know a lot about the discussed subjects, more then the current admins. With that group I want to make my forum bigger and better and I feel I cannot make it grow with the current admins and mods...

You could implement a "skill" based recognition system similar to the one used on XtremeVBTalk, where individuals found to have Expert or Guru levels of subject knowledge are awarded the appropriate rank.
This will allow the current administrators/moderators to continue with their duties, and provide public-recognition of those deserving of their ranks.
We have such things implemented indeed, but it's just not working properly. What I really want to know is: anyone ever booted an admin or mod from his forums? and how'd you do that?

If they no longer share your vision, thank them for their time and move them to registered.

Can you explain how you made the leap from "members who know more about the subject than the admins" to "can't make it grow with the current admins and mods"? I don't see how the admins' level of subject knowledge can prevent the forum from growing.
Thanks,
Lois
How did you choose your staff? Just gave them staff abilities as they joined up, or observed their participation level and professionalism over time?

I faced same situation on one of my forum, and yes its very hard to fire somebody. But anyhow it came possible. Dont directly ask somebody to leave but wait for a small chance and make that small thing a mess.
