Howdy! I've recently become aware of a unique situation on one of my forums. One of the members has cancer and loves the site. She is a very frequent poster, she has up to 6 months left on our great planet and I feel really bad for her. Anyone else ever come across this before?
She and your members are fortunate that she has prior warning. Some communities only hear of a death after the event, either from a close friend who happens to be a member or by hearing a news report somewhere. As she enjoys the place, continue as you always have :)
You can maybe PM her to have a family member join to keep you updated, should she get too sick a few months down the track to participate too much and for when she moves on to greener pastures
If you have no objections, may I edit the thread title to "impending death of a forum member" or words to that effect?

Not in the same context, but as a paying client. I suspended his account as he was late paying. I then emailed the client informing him that his account was suspended for late payment. His wife emails me back and said her husband had passed away, 3 weeks ago, and she was finalising his affairs. :(

Had the same thing happen to me...except the guy lied.
Sure change the title :)

not even in personal life, but when i hear such incidents i feel a lot for them.
I had a member who faked his death on the boards. "His brother" (actually him) came on and posted this whole story, and such. Oh, the drama. By the way, he just posted on the forum about 5 minutes ago, and is doing well. :P

We had a member sign up with another username and post about her own death. Now, mind you this woman was a tad bit odd before hand, but she just became a neusance, since the forum is for a small community, the effect it had was great.

I have been privately contacted by a member stating that he is in fact, only months away from death. This is a guy that everybody loves, and is much too young to die. It's just a terrible situation. I've actually been mailed an announcement to give to the forum on the day of his death, and phone numbers of family members. This will be my first death to have to deal with on my board.

I feel for you and for this member. :ghug:
While it's very sad, at least you have a way to find out what's happening or has happened with him.
On a positive subject, welcome to FU. :welcome:

A dear online friend and mentor of mine who was a senior admin at a site where I am now a senior admin passed away a few years ago. It was so sad to see t'kron (his alias) pass on after so many years as a valued member to our site and also to a major game developer.
When the day passed, a fellow admin posted a topic in memory of him, and many regs posted their thoughts and well wishes for his family. I still have PM's from him in my PM box as a reminder and memory.
I still miss him, but I remember him for his excellent posting habits, extensive knowledge of many technical issues, his inquisitive nature, and the calm manner in the way he spoke.

That's sad when something like this happens, I've never come across it online, but unfortunately have in real life.

I honestly would contact the person that is about to pass away and see what they would like the admin/moderators of the site to do whe the time comes and respect their wishes.
Thanks
